Federation of Uganda Salons and Beauty Professionals (FUSPro)
The Federation of Uganda Salons and Beauty Professionals (FUSPro), through its Head of Mobilisation and Publicity, Mr. Jjuuko Abubakali, has intensified community sensitization among salon operators and tailors across various districts in Uganda. The campaign focuses on encouraging practitioners in the informal sector to register for training under the GROW Project, an initiative aimed at empowering small business owners and skilled workers through training, certification, and economic empowerment.
A key component of this exercise is the registration for the Workers’ Pass, which serves as official recognition of one’s skills, trade, and professional identity within the informal sector. Possessing a Workers’ Pass offers numerous benefits — it enhances credibility, opens access to government and private sector opportunities, enables participation in national programs, and supports formal inclusion in Uganda’s workforce systems. It also acts as a form of identification for skilled individuals, making it easier for them to access training, credit, and employment opportunities.
In addition to the Workers’ Pass registration, FUSPro is also mobilizing its members to form Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs). These SACCOs are instrumental in promoting financial discipline, collective growth, and access to affordable loans for business expansion. By joining a SACCO, salon professionals and tailors can save regularly, borrow at low interest, and collectively invest in income-generating activities, thereby improving their livelihoods and business sustainability.
Mr. Jjuuko Abubakali emphasized that these activities are being carried out in close collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD), Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), and other key stakeholders. He noted that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader agenda of empowering the informal sector, promoting decent employment, and supporting micro-enterprises to become part of Uganda’s structured and competitive economy.
Through this mobilization effort, FUSPro continues to champion professionalism, unity, and empowerment among salon and tailoring practitioners — ensuring that no skilled Ugandan is left behind in the country’s journey toward inclusive economic growth
